Color Viscosity Monoprinting

Description: Viscosity inking is a multi-color printmaking technique that allows for printing colors simultaneously from a single plate, rather than relying on multiple plates for color separation. Using oil-based inks, students will create one of a kind prints. This class will open the door to spontaneous solvent techniques and drawing with the brayer. Kathy will share traditional techniques she learned from Krishna Reddy using rollers/brayers including “Blurries” and “Kiss-Offs,” and also present present a professional portfolio of excellent viscosity monoprints from her collection. Come and discover the magic of viscosity printing for yourself. In addition to class time, non-members receive 15 hours of additional studio time outside of class. Additional hours may be purchased as needed. To arrange your out of class studio time please email mgc@powerhousearts.org. Join as a member for unlimited open studio time, and a 25% discount toward classes. Instructor Bio: Kathy Caraccio has been creating in color viscosity printing since 1969. She studied with Arun Bose, a colleague of Krishna Reddy at Atelier 17 in Paris. She received her BFA from Lehman College, SUNY in 1971. Kathy has taught Printmaking at Columbia University, NYU, Pratt, Parsons/New School, Women Studio Workshop, and the National Academy. Caraccio is a freelance master printer for intaglio and wood cuts, and is managing her collection of over 6000 original fine art prints and books. Cancellation Policy STUDENT CLASS CANCELLATION If a student must drop out of a class, 75% of tuition will be refunded as long as MGC is notified 15 days or more prior to the start date of the class. If a student notifies MGC fewer than 15 days prior, no tuition can be refunded. Materials fee are non-refundable. If MGC cancels the class, registrants receive a full refund or studio credit.
