MGC Community Print Studio

class description

Description: Traditional techniques of etching, drypoint, aquatint, and use of hard and soft grounds are taught. Contemporary methods such as non-toxic photo-etching, viscosity printing, and Xerox-transfer are also demonstrated in this class. Students may undertake in-depth plate work that allows for extensive work on a single plate, multicolored printing, and various experimental techniques. In addition to in class time, 30 hours of open studio time are included (3 hours per week) outside of class for non-members; additional hours may be purchased as needed.To arrange your out of class studio time please email mgc@powerhousearts.org. Join as a member for unlimited open studio time, and a 25% discount toward classes. Instructor Bio: Born in India, Vijay Kumar studied art at Triveni Kala Sangam in New Delhi, and learned printmaking at Pratt Graphics Center in Manhattan. Drawing has always been his major interest. Vijay is a founding member of Manhattan Graphics Center, where he teaches etching. He has also taught printmaking at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit and at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Connecticut. Vijay has exhibited his etchings, drawings, and paintings throughout the U.S. and abroad, and has won awards for his work. His work is in permanent collections including: The New York Public Library, The Museum of Modern Art, the New-York Historical Society, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York City; the U.S. Library of Congress in Washington, DC; the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England; and the National Gallery of Modern Art and the Alkazi Collection in New Delhi.
