The Collagraph: Expansive Abstractions
Available spots
class description
Description: The collagraph is a fairly young, experimental printmaking process which can produce beautiful and sophisticated textures, while encompassing other areas of printmaking. The word is derived from the Greek word “kolla”, meaning glue, and graph, meaning the activity of drawing. A collagraph reflects multidimensional elements of impressions. Discover the tactile, expressive world of collagraph printmaking in this hands-on workshop. From beginner to master, this versatile process welcomes all concepts and yields surprising results. The adaptable nature of collagraph draws from intaglio, relief & monoprinting. This workshop will challenge students to step outside of their conceptual comfort zone and expand their visual vocabulary. Topics of color, fundamental drawing concerns and viscosity printing will be addressed as well. MGC Members receive a 25% discount toward registration, and non-members receive 12 hours of additional studio time outside of class. Class fee includes materials. Instructor Bio: Kelwin Coleman is an artist whose practice explores texture, process, and material experimentation through printmaking and mixed media.
